Showcase Projects
University of California, San Diego

When the University of California, San Diego needed an affordable source of power to serve the space conditioning and process loads of its on and off-campus facilities, it turned to cogeneration. When University Mechanical needed a reliable source of power to design and construct the school's cogeneration facility, it turned to the bundled service concept.

Under this unique concept - which we've named EMCOR 2000 and which exemplifies the power that only teamwork can generate - University Mechanical will act as the prime contractor for the project. Two of our EMCOR Group sister companies, as well as a University subsidiary, will serve as team leaders for their individual specialties: Newcomb Anderson for engineering; Dynalectric for electrical construction; and SPIRA-LOC for commissioning, testing, and balancing.

One unusual aspect of the project is that we will actually provide the supervision to operate the cogeneration facility for one year after its April 2001 completion, with assistance on selection and training provided by - you guesses it! - EMCOR Facilities Services.

Not only is this project our first showcase of the effectiveness and efficiency of our bundled service concept, it is also the single largest design-build project ever to be undertaken by UCSD.
