Level 3 Communications
San Diego, CA
Not long ago, USA Today described Level 3 Communications as "...a dream team with a dream network and a killer business plan." The newspaper definitely hit the nail on the head: Level 3 is growing fast enough that its San Diego facility needed expanding less than two years after it was first opened.
University, which provided mechanical services for the original facility, is just finishing up work on the expansion, with start-up procedures and commissioning being completed as this newsletter went to press.
For this phase, we provided design-assist services to rig, set, and install 14 owner-furnished CRAC (computer room air conditioning) units in addition to remodeling the mechanical systems for approximately 6,000 square feet of new office space. We worked around the clock, seven days per week for a total of 7,500 man-hours - all while our customer occupied the fully operational building. High-level communications skills were definitely brought into play to keep this project on course while maintaining a fast-paced schedule and a perfect safety record.
