La Jolla, CA
Johnson & Johnson's family of companies comprises 200-plus individual entities worldwide. Every one of them is guided by an understanding of the interdependence between human health and the health of the planet, and every one is committed to environmental responsibility, including energy management efforts.
At the Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development campus in La Jolla, shrinking the environmental footprint translates into on-site power generation using energy-efficient cogeneration. Concurrent with the construction of a 180,000-square-foot research facility, University is furnishing and installing a nominal 2.2 mw cogeneration system and associated piping, electrical, and controls.
Our crews will install one natural gas-fired generator this month and a second in February 2004. Not only will Johnson & Johnson PRD have a guaranteed electrical source - essential in an industry where a power failure would be catastrophic - the company will be able to sell excess power back to the grid and utilize waste heat to run the absorption chiller for the new research facility.
University has been fully involved in all aspects of the design as it affects budget, schedule, and system performance.
