Pfizer
La Jolla, CA
In the 1960s, the flat-topped hill that is Torrey Pines mesa, along with near-by hills and valleys, began to sprout life-science research facilities. Today this area is one of the world's major centers of such research and is home to hundreds of biotech companies, an increasing number of life-science tools companies, and fast-growing pharmaceutical companies.
In May 2002, Pfizer opened a pharmaceutical research facility in the area, and in no time at all, Pfizer Global Research & Development, La Jolla Laboratories became the company’s fastest-growing R&D site. Under construction today is 144,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory and office space being built to house hundreds of Pfizer scientists and support staff. That's only the beginning; the campus is planned to grow to nearly one million square feet in the near future.
The new facility's plumbing and HVAC piping and ductwork are being installed by University crews, who are holding to a fast pace while maintaining a perfect safety record. Key to staying on schedule is our ability to fabricate plumbing utility racks and ductwork offsite in our own shop. We also are responsible for producing coordination drawings.
