Banner Estrella Medical Center
Phoenix, AZ
When Phoenix-based Banner Health assembled the team that is designing and constructing a new medical campus in the West Valley, Banner Health System's goal was to create a healthcare facility for the future.
Banner Estrella Medical Center will feature a full-service, acute care, 167-bed hospital, medical office buildings, and an outpatient surgery center located on a 50-acre campus. "State-of-the-art" and "cutting-edge" don't begin to describe this facility, which will incorporate the latest in healthcare technology as well as systems that anticipate future technologies and healthcare delivery processes.
For this 440,000-square-foot project, University's teamwork ethic and design-assist expertise are definitely being put to the test - as is our next-generation technology. We are working hand-in-glove with the mechanical engineer and general contractor to produce design and construction packages that will coordinate with a future that is as yet unknown.
University is meeting the challenge. We are blending together our shop drawings and the engineer's drawings, using revolutionary four-dimensional technology to create fully coordinated 3-D drawings. This will aid us in analyzing constructability, solving problems prior to installation, and procuring long-lead items such as cooling towers and air handlers.
In addition to our design assistance work, University crews will install 700,000 pounds of sheet metal ductwork as well as 31.5 miles of pipe for the HVAC, plumbing and medical gas systems at Banner Estrella.
