IBM
Fishkill, NY
IBM's position as one of the world's premier e-business infrastructure technology suppliers grows stronger every day. Thus it is only natural that IBM would turn to a company with global clout to meet its mechanical needs.
For an expansion of the IBM Microelectronics fab facility in Fishkill, New York, University's sister company, Drake & Scull, of the United Kingdom, was brought in by Kurita America, a Dallas subsidiary of Tokyo's Kurita Water Industries, to provide a turnkey deionized water system. University's Arizona Division detailed the system's ultra-high-purity piping, and we fabricated the piping in our Arizona cleanroom fabrication facility.
Then we shipped the pipe from Phoenix to New York, where it was installed by another University sister company, Tucker Mechanical, of Meriden, Conn. Emcor Technology Group, which is headquartered in Edison, New Jersey, provided construction management services for the project.
University's Arizona Division fabricated more than 1,500 feet of UHP PVDF piping to meet the IBM plant capacity of 1,500 gallons per minute of microelectronics-grade DI water. The work included making 225 90-degree bends and 300 flanges joined by the infrared butt fusion method.
Having access to international business and technical expertise is one of University's greatest strengths - and it translates into a level of client service that is sought worldwide.
